A Little Update From The Director

August 14, 2023

Hello, friends and supporters. It's me, Donté Larry, the writer and director of My Silence, My Grave. We are so close to finishing this film, I can almost taste it!

It's been a while since you've heard from us, so I would like to give you an update. The film's score, color grade, and sound design have been completed. Thank you Gregory Morelo, Theresa Ferrell, and Vandana Ramakrishna for your outstanding work. These artists went above and beyond for this film and it shows.

So, who the heck are we waiting for!? Well.... me! The final piece to this wonderful puzzle are the visual effects. I've been hard at work putting all the fun, gory, and surreal effects into the film and am happy with the results. Once the vfx are complete, I'll work with Paul Myzia, the editor, for any final adjustments and that's it, we'll lock the film!

Thank you everyone for your love, support, and patience. This has been the largest and most challenging personal film project I've ever undertaken, and I couldn't have done it without all of you. Stay tuned, we're almost at the finish line. Thanks a million!

We have picture lock!

September 6, 2022

Picture lock means the end of picture editing, when the film's entire cut has been completed and approved. The editor and director have worked tirelessly over the last few months—and have cut together quite a few iterations—to ensure the best version of the film is realized. Next, the film will be sent to the colorist, composer, sound designer, and vfx artist.

Stay tuned for more updates and follow the film's Instagram here.

Post-production has kicked off!

March 8, 2022

We now have our editor, colorist, sound designer, and composer. Make sure you’re following the film’s Instagram page to meet the post-production team.

I can’t wait to share this film with you all.

The official behind-the-scenes trailer is out!

October 28, 2021

The official behind-the-scenes trailer is out! Go watch it here and share with all your friends and family.

Also, we have two days left of our fundraising campaign, so let’s do a big final push. Specifically, if you know anyone who wants to be an Executive Producer or Sponsor, we would love to have them!

Thanks!

Less than a week left of our fundraising campaign!

October 24, 2021

We have less than a week to meet our fundraising goal. Our film’s budget is $15,000 and we must reach at least $12,000 on Seed&Spark to receive the funds. Unfortunately, the sponsorships, grants, and film fund endeavors fell through, leaving crowdsourcing as our primary method for raising funds. Please follow our campaign here and continue to share the campaign with anyone you know that might enjoy our antics! Particularly any friends you suspect may be secret millionaires… we all have one!

Thanks for your continued love and support!

We have wrapped principal photography!

October 18, 2021

You read that correctly, folks, we wrapped principal photography. The cast and crew stayed on location for almost a week and filmed for five days. What a hell of a fun week to spend with some of the most hardworking, creative, and intelligent people in the business. But we’re not done yet! Now, the crew is transitioning to the post-production work. Continue to follow announcements on this page and updates on the film’s official Instagram here.

The spiritual predecessor to My Silence, My Grave just released!

October 2, 2021

In the Belly was the most recent film I wrote, directed, and edited as a film student at New York Film Academy (link below). It was almost completely crewed by other students in the filmmaking program. For My Silence, My Grave, on the other hand, our Director of Photography is from the cinematography program and will provide her own camera, light, and grip crews, all great cinematographers themselves. We now also have two Producers, a Stunt Coordinator, a Sound Mixer, and other positions that were previously held by filmmaking students for In the Belly. However, we also have a couple hired personnel that worked on In the Belly and are coming back to work on My Silence, My Grave. Our wonderful Production Designer and Key Makeup and SFX Artist have joined our team again. Their wonderful work can be seen in In the Belly.

My Silence, My Grave is a standalone sequel and expansion of the concepts, story, and style of In the Belly, which can be thought of as a proof of concept or spiritual predecessor to My Silence, My Grave. But, where In the Belly had a cast and crew of only 18 people, My Silence, My Grave has already doubled its cast and crew size.

For In the Belly, I wanted to tell a small, simple story of two friends in a toxic relationship. The premise was simple: if you turn on one other in a moment of grave danger, then you will doom everyone. I wanted to show how quickly a toxic relationship will crumble under pressure. My intent wasn’t to tell a large, world-changing story, since I was still a student filmmaker. With My Silence, My Grave, I’m ready to tackle the big subjects. The premise here is that when oppressed people fight amongst themselves, they only work to preserve the power of those who oppress them. I want to show how minority groups in an oppressive society cannibalize each other to survive.

Watch In the Belly here.

Private Cast and Crew Screening

March 9, 2024

After a looong post-production, we were finally ready to throw a private screening party for the cast and crew of My Silence, My Grave. It was 2.5 years ago when the team came together to shoot Writer/Director Donté Larry’s final student film at New York Film Academy. As Donté puts it, “It’s not an exaggeration to say that the week we filmed was absolutely one of the best, most memorable weeks of my life. It was a pleasure to work with such amazing, artistic, and professional humans. Thank you all for bringing this film to life and thank you for such a fun screening.”

Thank you Living Skin for hosting the event. Your venue space and hospitality were phenomenal.

Now off to the film festivals we go!
